It’s now at $17k, and we’re not sure if it’s actually fixed. It now has a fresh engine, that I’m pretty sure still misfires, and a new transmission. Anybody else have a comparison?
Also, due to the 2.4 being such a failure of an engine, she’s had a loaner for a total of 3 days in this ordeal.

Sounds like a lemon. I hadn’t heard that these cars generally so unreliable.

It’s lasted 70k miles. It’s not a lemon, it was just poorly designed. Don’t listen to Hyundai/Kia’s carbon maintenance, the intakes need blasting. These got bad enough that the carbon bits broke off and damaged the cylinders.

DeMuro’s grand total was $21,276 in warranty repairs, so she’s maybe one or two more expensive problems away from equaling or surpassing that.
God, what an irredeemable shitpile those Range Rovers were

I thought Azeras only came with the 3.8?

My GTI had a turbo, intake and oil pump replaced under warranty I had to pay for a clutch at 33k . I sold it to Quad Cities VW for $5000 when the timing chain skipped at 80k leaving my wife and her friends stuck 3 hours from home.

Nope, this gen was only the 3.3. I mentioned the 2.4 because all of their loaners are never available because of the constant flow of 2.4 replacements.

I’m not really sure whether they’ve improved or not, my guess is not, but I don’t know much about the current models.

Yep, 2013. Nice car when it was working properly but when you have 5 multi-thousand dollar repairs before 80k…. It didn’t even suffer the rear main seal or PCV problems yet.

It seems like the aura of Hyundai and Kia quality is fading, and it shows. A ton of c. 2008-2016 Hyundai and Kia products are now having lots of severe issues.

Initial is the key word in Initial Quality. What’s funny is that we had a ‘99 Sportage that was bulletproof reliable for the 120k miles we had it.

Meanwhile my 2013 MINI has had only minor repairs, and still rocks the factory clutch at 95k of hard Chicago driving. I’m sure it’ll have problems eventually but it’s earned the right to be entitled to a few expensive repairs.

Nice - see people, it can be done! Clutches should last a long time. The only clutches I’ve ever had to replace were on cars I bought used. The 86 Camry my sister and I learned to drive in was driven to the junk yard around 1999 at 230k with the original clutch.

I’d only heard of problems with their 2.0t engines. Something about casting flash coming loose inside the block and ruining bearings.

The 2.4 has a massive recall on it from manufacturing issues, but the 3.3 started having more issues after swapping to DI.

Former 2013 Santa Fe 2.0t owner here. In my 3 year tenure of ownership I went through a total of 13 recalls and got my 14th notification in the mail last week almost 3 months after I sold it. T he problems became too problematic. Not to mention the idea that I was sitting on a ticking time bomb due to premature bearing wear, amongst many other problems, I made the decision to hop into a Tacoma.
I really loved it, but it wasn’t worth paying several thousand to rebuild the engine in the event that it decided to self destruct.

Initial quality is still the key term.
